gim|bals «JIHM buhlz, GIHM-», noun (plural).
an arrangement for keeping an object horizontal, and giving it freedom to rotate about a fixed center. A ship's compass is supported on gimbals made of a pair of rings pivoted to swing, one within the other, on axes at right angles to each other.
